My daughter loves watching The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About That cartoon, so I thought it would be nice to supplement it with the books from the The Cat in the Hat's Learning Library, so she can learn more about insects without realizing it! It is very informative, colourful, has all the characters from my daughter's favorite cartoon, plus written as a poem (of course, the rhyme is not of dr. Seuss' quality and sometimes feels forced and awkward). However my biggest complain about this book is that there is no story line. In the cartoon series usually Sally and Nick would come across a problem which Cat in the Hat helps them to resolve by introducing them to some animals/plants/insects, etc. At the end the problem is solved and the kids learned something new about the featured creatures. The book just starts with the Cat in the Cat introducing himself and inviting everybody to look around and find insects.- he talks about classification of insect (who IS and who is NOT an insect and why)- three parts of insect's body- insects' eyes are insects' antennae- how different insects protect their lives- little bit about ants (how strong they are)- a bit more on bees (everybody takes care of the queen, communicate by dancing and collect pollen, which helps more flowers to grow)- little bit on fleas (animals itch cz of them)- why flies buzz- little bit on mosquitoes (only females bite)- caterpillar into a butterfly- firefights (they flash, put them into a jar and then let them go- that's it!)My daughter asked me to read this book once, when it just arrived. After that I would just grab it off the shelf with the requested books and read it towards the end. She wouldn't mind, but would never ask for it herself!

I bought this book in preparation for a public library story-time. The rhythm is slightly off at times (reptiles book is lots better), and there were 2 entomological bloopers I spotted. Unless you read VERY carefully and put the accent on the right word, the author could be saying insects are blind, which they are not. Also, there is a picture in which a cricket is chirping --with an obvious ovipositor. Males chirp, females don't. Females have ovipositors, males don't. I'm still going to read it to my grandson, but being careful to accent the right word, and explain errors. It's still an OK book with lots of good info geared for little kids.

I tell my son that I have a new book for him. About what? --he asks. About bugs.--I tell him. He looked disappointed. Then I tell him that it is from Cat in the Hat series. He looks at the cover, sees the bees and agrees to read it. I'd say that the authors have made reading about bugs more fun than I could have imagined. This is by far one of my favorites from the series possibly because I learned a lot of new facts myself. It was simply a good read with the 3-year old. My son concluded: I really like books from series Cat in the Hat. Note that I read these to him in English and then translate to Polish. We bought used book in very good condition and it arrived looking as new.

This book is very informative! It held my 3-5 yr old preschoolers attention really well and has a lot of opportunities to teach and learn! I def reccomend if you’re studying bugs!

I love the series putting the basics of any number of things in terms children can understand. I have about one third of the books and intend to get the complete set for grand children.

The kids love this book!! Teaches in a fun way. kids love learning new interesting facts and this was a perfect book for that

Great detailed and highly educational illustrations and text. My son adores this series and I feel like he learns a great deal from these books...heck, let me be honest, I learn a lot from these books too. :)

If you're reading this review (and let's face it, I hope you are), you probably have a few details you're trying to get straight in your mind. Hopefully, my review and I will have answered these matters by the end, if not before. First, I realize I'm rather far removed from the intended audience. That's okay: I've discovered I'm rather good at coloring outside the lines. Second, I rated RELEASE ME five stars. What the heck? Again, I'll direct you to my previous statement, and I'll add that this book is really good. Have you ever found yourself reading exactly the right book at exactly the right time you needed to read it? Almost like destiny brought you two together. Cue the sappy romance music now, you might say, and you're probably right. But that's what this book felt like for me: a guy and a gal locking eyes from across the room, the physical attraction strong enough that nothing else and no one else seems to matter. In many respects, that's what this book was for me: chemistry strong enough that it could have melted an iceberg. Is there a lot of sex? Actually, there's not as much as I expected. But I'm a guy, and I have high expectations in these matters. Their first sexual encounter, though, involved four different acts of copulation, so naturally, I wondered if there were prescription drugs involved, and yeah, it might have strained disbelief for me, but it didn't delve so far out of reality that I believed it wasn't possible, or have a certain amount of hope, for that matter. After all, I do read mainly for entertainment, and this book certainly served that purpose by leaps and bounds. Oh yes, I was entertained. Probably more than I should have been. Yes, it might be slightly exaggerated, but guys really do think about sex every four minutes or so, and when there's an attractive woman across the room that time might be cut in half.So what about the book, you knucklehead? Well, I should probably get this out of the way right now. I am a contemporary erotica virgin, and therefore, I have no basis for what I'm about to say other than my love of reading and this includes anything from mysteries to horror to romances and just about anything in between. But I can tell you that the relationship seemed real to me. It didn't seem forced, and yes, I was totally into it. I was buying it like hundred dollar lap dances, and I did it with a stupid grin on my face. Nikki Fairchild and Damien Stark seemed as real to me as the dampness that hangs in the air after a hard rain in the middle of the desert. Nothing about their relationship or the writing or even the sex seemed off the mark. It was beautiful, sensual, and hot enough to make me feel as though I needed my own personal fan. The pages turned with surprising ease as I became more and more involved in the characters, their relationship, and the little obstacles that managed to cause them to stumble. Nikki and Damien had strength, purpose, and enough dimensions to make my head spin. Sure, they're both emotionally damaged, scarred, and have plenty of baggage like an airport carousel, but who doesn't? Nikki had a flippancy that I found rather amusing and certainly enjoyable. Heck, all of it was enjoyable, even the ending that sets itself up nicely for CLAIM ME, the second book in the trilogy, that doesn't come out until July 2. Yeah, my patience will be strained, but I don't mind waiting for the things I want. And no, I didn't feel the ending was forced, or even a real cliffhanger for that matter. Like the rest of the writing, it seemed to fit as well as a catcher's mitt.I should also mention that RELEASE ME could have been a cheap imitation of FIFTY SHADES OF GREY and probably sold a half million copies without even blinking a false eyelash. But it wasn't. And that's what I enjoyed as much as the writing itself. Ms. Kenner took a chance with this novel by delving into a genre already filled with imitations and knockoffs, and she said screw it, I'm paving my own path. I loved this book because it was exactly what they said it would be. This is not a story about failed love and remorse and looking for someone to love again.This book was empowering; it told a story of how a woman does not need anyone else to pick her pieces up. She will do it herself, however she can and whenever she is ready. She doesn't need help because she has herself.If you are a woman and you want to be reminded of all that you are capable of and the strength you have inside, read this... and read it now.

This is an amazing collection of poetry. It's been a long time since I've read anything that spoke to me as much as this book does. I first ran across JM Storm's work online, where he has shared his work on Pinterest, Twitter, and Instagram. It was there that I learned there was a book of his collected works.I have to say I tend to prefer my books online, but because this was only on paper I went ahead and purchased it anyway. I think mostly because I'd read and loved so much of his work online that I felt I owed him money! Much to my surprise, I got so much more out of each poem when reading them on paper. Something about having each one stand alone, on a white page, made me absorb the words without distraction. I think because we tend to skim so much content on our electronic devices that reading the words on paper helped me fully appreciate how the author distills complicated human emotion into a few lines of text.I love this book. Each new poem I read I would think to myself, "who the heck is this guy?" How does he know what we've all experienced and express it so succinctly? He touches on everything from self-acceptance, to human connections, to perseverance. And love...how to find it (when you begin to love/accept yourself, it will find you), and how to let go of it ("learning to let go of the ones we love with nothing but love").As I was reading this, I started to dog-ear the pages with poems that really spoke to me, but I realized about half-way through that the system was flawed...there are too many favorites. And, yes, I am someone who bends the pages and generally lives in a book I love until I wring everything out it. This book has so much to absorb that I think it's going to require several run-throughs.So, I am now officially a fan of JM Storm, as witnessed by this, the longest review of my life. I've turned into one of the many people who follow him on all the platforms, waiting to see what he's going to post next. I understand he's working on a second book (I know this from the aforementioned online stalking), and I will most definitely be one of the first people purchasing it (the paper version, of course).

J.M. Storm's writing style in my mind, can be experienced and felt as indescribable art -- one which pierces our soul and lives in the heart. I first discovered Storm's work randomly as I stumbled on his writing via Instagram. I read a few of his poems online and was hooked. His poetry demands strong emotion and with such precision in Storm's choice of words, he has an uncanny ability to convey abstract truths about the universal human condition in a way we all wish we could but can't. No matter what one's culture of origin, age, or life experience -- undoubtedly a person is deeply touched and moved by such things as birth, growth, hope, aspiration, courage.... but mostly we are touched by Love. One Real Love. He describes the power and transformation that is felt through divine love and leaves the reader wanting more. Although I would describe Mr. Storm as a modern poet, his poetry describes a modern love in a way that has been lost in today's generation. A deeply rooted love that stems from human spirit and ecstasy within. And perhaps it's true for some as the saying goes that "a woman needs a man like a fish needs a bicycle" but I would beg to differ. Every Woman... every Man....every Human needs a Love so true that will stay with them on the good days and on the days that feel like the depths of hell. He is indeed a modern day poet with an old-fashioned soul. He is one to be recognized as brilliant and masterful in his work -- and though we may not know him, we have a glimpse of learning and being further illuminated by him, as we experience the essence by being In His Head. I will follow this author all the way through. An amazingly raw and beautiful book of prose for anybody who enjoys poetry and literature as a form of enjoyment or escape from the ordinary.

I had been following JmStorm on Instagram for a couple of months and was so intrigued by his poetry that I had to purchase his book. I was not disappointed. I read it in one sitting and am not ashamed to say it moved me to tears four different times. In My Head is a soulful collection of love poems and snippets of verse that reach into the depths of love, loss and emotions that speak to your heart. At times, I felt like the poems were written just for me and about me. That is how in touch this poet is with prose. I highly recommend it for those looking for poems that will melt your heart and remind you of love that should be cherished. I look forward to his next book, hope one is in the works. Thank you, Mr. Storm for the beautiful words.

This is a great introduction to baseball and the medium of television, but beware that it's pretty heady stuff. It doesn't take long before you have to wade into contracts and deals so complex that I still don't think I understand how they work. The later chapters especially, which deal with recent situations, can be pretty complex.My hope was that this would be about how TV has been used to cover the game, and the book does include that. But it ultimately has to spend a whole lot of time talking about where the money comes from and where it goes, especially once the basic logistics of covering a game were settled.I enjoyed it, but had to slog through the later chapters...

A well written book in which the authors discuss the still developing and burgeoning relationship between baseball and television. First discussed is local baseball telecasts of baseball (which were done well before any national coverage of baseball), the national coverage in terms of broadcast and cable channels, and how this "marriage" of baseball and television has been dysfunctional - various announcers are discussed, too. Many nice insights in this book - it gives THE best explanation for the declining attendance figures of the Fifties and the contraction of the minor leagues in the Fifties that I have read in my lifetime - it was almost like a life mystery was explained to me when I read that section. It's also fun to read about how few camera angles were used in those early local broadcasts of games, and how surprising it was to read that the center field camera shot was discouraged by MLB until the late Sixties. A book definitely worth getting - the chapters on the television rights are slow and tedious reading (X year contract for X million dollars, etc.) and the chapter references in this book (ie "see Chapter XX" or "discussed in Chapter XX") got a little annoying but all in all, a better book than I expected.

I had been using my old outdated copy for a couple decades when I decided to get a new one. It looked great, but was very dissapointed when I found that many of the things, like smaller campgrounds, were missing from the new version - even ones that had been on the old version.

This is pretty good. We use it (as opposed to just storing it on the shelf). But for the money, we like the Michigan County Atlas better. The roads seem better depicted, plus you get histories and points of interest.

The DeLorme line of topo maps is a travel must for my family. I have found more amazing little out-of-the-way places with these maps than I ever could have with a "take the next left" app. There simply is no alternative to opening the map and plotting your course for the day!

We took a remote vacation through northern Michigan. This map is great because it shows all the smaller roads; tells you what's paved and what isn't - gives a good sense for where the towns are and how big they are.

The DeLorme Gazeteers are a MUST HAVE for navigating and exploring, and a helpful backup for when your GPS/phone nav doesn't work well. I keep one in each car; this one replaces a well-loved, tattered, older addition.

I think I had too many expectations, perhaps, but it seems a bit harder to use than I expected it would be, and isn't as detailed as I would have liked. Still, it is much easier on the eyes than a typical map, and I am glad I got it.

This is a great gazetteer for the state, especially for those folks who do not want to totally rely on possibly erroneous GPS directions. I wish it included enlargements of the larger cities, though.

This is an excellent map. There may be a few more-detailed maps out there, but likely not many. I really like all the Gazatteer maps and this one is no exception. Highly recommended.

I'll just echo some of the previous reviews: This book is incredibly hit or miss. It's not just how random each section is (you can almost tell who was responsible for writing each section/chapter, the differences are so stark). Here's a laundry list:1) They rarely go into that much detail on any one topic. You don't get much discussion on what practical effect the tunables have, they just basically give you a short description of the tunable and suggest what you'd use it for. It would be helpful if you describe WHY it's advisable to do what they're suggesting, instead of just saying it and letting us judge between that and what they said the tunable control's description.2) Some information in it is just plain wrong. For example: despite the previous section (understandably) describing the CFS scheduler (on page 189), The section about CPU scheduler tunables (on page 192) they give you a long list of tunables for the 2.4 kernel's scheduler and nothing for CFS. This is also an example of how much quality/tone variation there is in such a short space. Why they're even touching on 2.4's scheduler in a book that first came out in 2005 (two years after 2.6's first stable release) I don't really know.3) Terms are often used before they're defined and sometimes not even defined. This also goes for the graphs and tables, they'll put some sort of graphic out there without telling you what it's for and then you'll stumble on something a page and a half later that talks about it or you'll remember that they were talking about something similar a few pages back.4) Since there's no updated version the software being referenced is pretty old. There's still a great deal of applicable knowledge, but you're kind of walking through a minefield for stuff you're still going to care about.5) Kind of similar to the first point but: this seems to be written by technical people rather than people who have much experience training others.There are valuable parts of this book, though. I got a lot out of the network tuning (which isn't really covered enough in most tuning books).I would say it may be worth the time to read it, but not the money to buy it and then the time to read it ontop of that. If you have a Safari online subscription, this book is on there and you can browse through it, otherwise you're probably better off buying something else.

I like this book since it does give some really good hints at performance tuning Linux boxes. I will say if all your systems are working right is time to buy this book. If it is not do not buy this book

It's got a lot of theory, the "why" of different features as they relate to performance. It's also packed full of practical material. They tell you how to measure key components in the system and what parameters you can change to affect those areas. When you get done, you've covered every conceivable area that exists in the Linux environment. I particularly liked the blending of measuring/monitoring along with the instructions on how to change performance. The chapter on system performance monitoring tools can be used immediately to see how your system runs. Once you become comfortable using those tools, you can use them to run before and after comparisons of tuning efforts. There's no guesswork involved. Measure, tweak, and remeasure. Repeat as necessary. Same with the benchmarking tools. They will allow you to know without a doubt whether the changes you made work or not.I'm also impressed with the readability of the book on a couple of different fronts. For one, books like this can be dry as dirt, especially in the areas dealing with theory and architecture. But surprisingly, it really wasn't hard to follow, nor was I getting bored. The other reason the readability is surprising is that the chapters are done by 21 different contributors. When you get different chapters being done by different techies (with varying levels of communication skills), you normally get a very uneven book. Not so here... The editors should be commended for taking material that I'm sure was all over the board and weaving it into a cohesive and coherent volume.Bottom line... If you run a Linux system and you are responsible for making sure it performs, this is the book you need to have.
