Full disclosure, I'm still only in chapter 5. I will give a more complete review when I am finished (hopefully).A few years ago, Pastor Fisk released his book "Broken". It was a book that many were blown away with. For me, admittedly while I enjoyed it, I didn't love it. It was just an okay read. Probably worthy of 3-stars for me. "Echo" on the other hand is top notch. The book isn't over complicated. It isn't an academic, text book. It is very simple, straight to the point and just comes right at you. It does not pull up.In such simple language that in all honesty, a 5th graders could read it just fine, he writes the absolute basics as to what it means to be a Christian. The outline of the book should be quite familiar to many who have been raised in the church. I found this outline to be brilliantly hidden. This is definitely a book that I recommend to pretty much anyone.NOTE: That this is not an apologetic book. If you are looking for a book defending/explaining the truths of Christianity. This is not your book. This book is much more about proclamation.

This may not be the most well-written book you've ever read. I don't think that speaks to the capability of the writer, but rather to his intimate knowledge of his audience. This book is not intended to impress, but to seek the lost (and aren't we all?). It's not meant to garner satisfied nods of agreement, but heads and hearts bowed in sorrow and then restored in our Lord's life-altering promises. I would say that I wish I had had this book in high school, the period between confirmation and my college theology courses, but I don't think it would have been as powerful to me then as now, twenty years later. (Diving Providence, that is!)"Echo" skillfully plumbs the deep wounds of "anfectung", the violent collision of Me and my thorns with Who Jesus Is, What Jesus Did, and What Jesus is Coming Again to Do. This book is so immediately applicable to your life that you'll find yourself digging out your gradeschool catechism (the one "Me" wrote your crush's name in), just to check if that crusty, dusty Friday morning memory work is the very same living, moving, faith-creating Echo you are currently unable to put down. Praise be to our changeless Creator and Redeemer, this book is MORE of the very same.

After sampling Pastor Fisk's first chapter of Echo via CPH, I was primed for craving more. Pre-purchased, downloaded a little after midnight on the day of its release, I had Echo in my hot little hands. While gorging myself through the first 64% of this book, the thought occurred to go back through to savor the solid truths so delightfully administered by Pastor Fisk. For a book of this Me-centered time to bring the reader back to Christ Jesus so gently, yet without wavering, is truly a gift. Speaking of gifts, my plan is to gift my Pastor and Youth Leader directly with copies of Echo: Unbroken Truth Worth Repeating, Again... . Thanks Pastor Fisk!

I definitely got the impression this book was an attempt to reach the millennial reader...somehow. But, for me it was hard to stay focused with it because of its ethereal style. I've heard Pastor Fisk speak in conference, and was looking forward to this book on catechisis, but when I got it...it was not what I expected.

It is the humble opinion of this Baptist pastor that, so far, the 21st century is not at risk of producing written content that adds much value to the last 2000 years of Christianity. Then there are some glimpses of light. “Echo” is one of those rays. This book comes at a time when the American “Christian” industrial complex is producing much that is akin to theological and spiritual gruel, when what Christians need is a Thanksgiving Banquet. Christians need to know about what Christ has done, when we seem to be so myopically focused on what we do for Him in every aspect of our lives. Christians need to rely on what God has said and done, rather than how we “feel” about things at any given moment. This is the only true foundation from which to build all of life. Christians need to know the essential truths encapsulated so succinctly in: The 10 Commandments, The Lord’s Prayer, and the Apostles Creed.“Echo” breaks through in a literary setting that is assessable to the 21st century, second decade reader. Fisk’s writing style moves the content from the page to the mind then the heart. He speaks to this culture. He grasps it then dresses it down with solid Biblical Christianity. Yet, it isn’t his words, but the reminder of “God’s Words” that come shining through as that “ray of light.” When you read this book you will discover that, indeed, it is the “faith of our fathers” that is relevant anytime and anyplace. This book is well suited for Jr High to High School readers. Yet, I would heartily recommend it to Christians of any age. Even a seasoned saint will be reminded once again. Perhaps even steered back on course if their proclivity to self has steered them off course. In summary, I know of no better recommendation then to say as the church where I pastor honors it’s graduates this June, this will be the gift from the pastor. It will be coupled with a strong admonishment to make it their summer reading. It will prepare them well for all of life.

I wasn't sure I would like this book because Rev. Fisk has a reputation for being snarky. However, I was pleasantly surprised! This is an absolutely beautiful book, breaking down the basic Christian truths into simple, but fresh language. Someone once said that Christianity is so simple a little child could understand it, but so deep it confounds the greatest theologians. Well, this book proves that.

This is one of the best books about fundamentals of the Christian faith I've read. Not only is it readable by a wide age range (from confirmation age up) but would also make an excellent study book for teen and adult groups to consider. Can't recommend this book highly enough.

What a great reminder of the importance of the basic teachings of Christianity. With so much watered down, false teachings and heresies out there it is refreshing to read something of value.
