I've long desired this book & I finally succumbed to temptation. I'm not sorry one whit!Harold Burnham (Curator of the ROM) & Dorothy Burnham (prev curator of the Textile Dept, ROM), have documented coverlets & other items, including clothing, primarily of the 19th C, but with important pieces from an earlier date, of the Maritime Provinces of Canada.It is clear that a weaver could, with this book & knowledge of the customs of weaving drafts of that period, make some exemplary coverlets. I've frequently thought of using them, but updating the pattern wefts with hand-dyed, ombre' yarns.As a weaver with an interest in history, I found this book to be fascinating. Interestingly, it also segues into my interest in the Trails Era (generally pre- Civil War) of the American West.For the historian interested in textiles or for the weaver, this book is an excellent find.

This historical book not only details weaving from a historical perspective but also includes photos of patterns and the directions and drafts which can be used to produce the patterns in much the same way as our ancestors did.
This is the absolute best book on overshot coverlets. No matter which pattern you want to do it's here. It's not a cheap book, but worth any amount you have to pay. I've done 'Lee's Surrender' from this and can't wait to make more.
This is a treasure and I am glad I finally invested in it. Weaving is my hobby and this book is filled with information and gives me motivation. Perfect coffee table book for me!!!
