There are a lot of good recipes in here - if you don't care about fat intake. Lots of recipes with heavy cream, a lot of butter, a lot of cheese, may eggs, etc. No nutrition counts included. Some weird ingredients, but not too bad. Recipes don't have photos, but I don't care about that. I DO want to know the nutrition on what I'm deciding to cook.
I will try another recipe and edit this review if it is warranted, but my first use of this book was disappointing. I tried making Mexican Pork and Sweet Potato Stew. First, it told me to do the onions and garlic, then remove; never told me to add it back so an instruction was missing. Called for chorizo, didn't specify whether the chorizo I buy should be cooked or uncooked. Once all ingredients were into the pot, it said bring to a boil ... with what ? The only fluid came from a 28oz can of diced tomatoes. I could surmise that the author forgot to say to add a liquid such as water or chicken broth, let alone how much. I had to look up other recipes on the internet a guess that maybe they meant to have us add 14 oz of chicken broth (or water?). The author's web site does not provide for any recipe corrections/updates.Three (3) mistakes in the first recipe I tried is not a very encouraging experience. I'll try one more recipe, but I'm already pretty skeptical and probably wasted my money on this Kindle book (which cannot be printed so you need your kindle device (iPhone, iPad, Kindle) to be with you when you cook with it).
Pretty disappointed when the first recipe I tried was incomplete. Listed an ingredient that wasn't used in the instructions and then the instructions didn't have you add the garlic and onion mixture back in.
Good grief half the ingredients are not found where I shop and I wanted simple basic recipes. If that’s what u want give this one a pass.
I can't top Anna Logana's review but wanted to add that I bought the Kindle version because it came via the daily ebooks specials.It is soooo good that I've ordered the hardback for my daughter. I bought her first enameled cast iron DO for Xmas. And although I have waaaay too many cookbooks, I know that once hers arrives I'll put another copy (for me!) in my cart.
The hints in the first part of the book were great. Doubt I'd ever make the recipes tho as they're too "fancy" with some odd ingredients.Glad I bought the Kindle & not the print version. Hope I can adapt my more "down home" recipes by using this book as a guideline.Worth the 99 cents.
The recipes in this cookbook were average but nothing exceptional. This book would probably be helpful to the average home cook but advanced home cooks will not find it helpful.
I got this cookbook and a Dutch oven for my son and daughter-in-law for Christmas. They love it. Lots of good recipes and a great variety.
Daughter loves the cook book, foods are tasty and easy to work into her hectic schedule.
