I preordered this book because I knew it was going to be exceptionally good, as is everything offered by artist Jeanne Oliver. I own many of her fashion pieces and I follow her on social media and have long been an admirer and fan of everything she does. Once I received this book, I was actually blown away at how blown away I was. It far exceeded my expectations, which were pretty high to begin with. I will tell you what I love about it...I love the way she is so generous with her knowledge and her experiences. I love the way she talks conversationally. I love the way she is in the details of every single thing, so that you are not left saying, about ANYTHING..."I wish she would have included that..." -in fact, many times over, I was left thinking.... "wow, she even included that!" - the hardest part of finishing this book was that I wanted to stop every few pages and try what she was demonstrating and writing so eloquently about, but I knew if I did that I might not return to the book and finish it...so I devoured to cover to cover over about a week of evenings. The photography and photo styling is breathtaking too... so it's just a really pleasurable book to sit with and read. And a pleasurable book to sit and read is one thing, but this one also inspires action. This book makes you feel like you can do what she is teaching you to do, and it makes you WANT to do it. That is quite an admirable skill in this time of short attention spans and being on to the next thing. This will be my go-to book for art journaling inspiration and will also be the book that I recommend to others who are wanting to either get into art journaling or wanting to be re-inspired to begin again. I recommend this book wholeheartedly and if you haven't checked out everything else Jeanne Oliver does... I highly recommend you do that too! You won't regret it. Always a feast for the eyes, the heart and the soul. She is becoming legendary in her offerings and deserves every bit of praise she gets!

Easily the best book/magazine I have bought all year. Oliver is an excellent writer, her prose making reading such a pleasure. The authenticity of the author is felt through the pages and project she wants to take with you. It is very inspiring. Healing is so Important for self care. Oliver puts it front and center to draw from our life experiences to tell our own individual stories because they matter. All of them.I recommend this book. You won’t be disappointed.

I'm just gonna tell you what I said on Facebook earlier today:You guys. Seriously. I have no words for how good this book is. Which is rare.What Oliver's created here is completely unique. It's not just about making pretty pictures in a book. It's about excavating your soul's stories, collecting all the various threads that make you *you*, and putting them together to make art in a way that only you can.When I got my copy from Netgalley this morning, I thought I'd flip through it and go on with my day. Most art books, I go in, look at the techniques, see if there's anything new that I want to try in my own practice, and then, generally, they go on the shelf. Even the ones I like and end up keeping are often shelf-dwellers, waiting for me to need that particular technique.This is not how my morning went, y'all.By the second chapter or so, I was sitting in my comfy chair with a notebook, following a sidebar (just a sidebar!) of her advice to write down notes about all of your stories. Granted, she said to only take fifteen minutes or so. Two HOURS later, I was still scribbling notes and only made it to my late teens.Quick fact you may not know about me: I have a head injury. Got creamed by a drunk driver in 2003. There were days I forgot things like words and my own grandmother's name. There are large swaths of my life path that are foggy or I just don't remember.This morning, when I was making my scribbly list of stories, *I started remembering*, y'all. Things that were lost, stories that were foggy or forgotten.By the time I stopped for the time being (my hand was cramping), I had a WEALTH of new resources to draw upon. For me, for that one tip alone? I'd buy ten of these books.Then, though, she gets into her process, and through a whole host of absolutely gorgeous projects and unique techniques, she delves deep into those stories you've uncovered, and gives them the chance to be illuminated and seen. I've taken Jeanne's classes (which she has on her self-named site), and there are some projects that are repeats, just for the record. However, coming into them this time with another round of stories made the projects themselves new, as well.Oliver has put into the world not just a beautifully photographed and well-organized art resource, but a kind of soul-level tool for self-discovery here.I can not recommend it highly enough. It comes out in July. I suggest pre-ordering. Worth every penny, and about a million more.

This book is an amazing way to document your life, via photos, watercolors, acrylic etc. I’m loving all of the ideas, for photos and inspiration that this book gives. It is a must buy!

I had already purchased this photographic masterpiece by Paul Freeman some time ago (I own ALL his volumes!!!) but continued to look for a copy to give a friend as a gift. Since the book is technically out of print, only a few new copies remain and many used copies are unacceptable. I hit gold when I found this copy offered for a reasonable price by this seller on Amazon. I can now share this beautiful work of art with the very friend who turned me on to the beautiful nude male art of Paul Freeman when he gave me my first volume, HEROICS over a year ago on my birthday. Since then, that friend has given me another copy of Freeman's work, Outback Bushmen and I myself have purchased all the other works by this extraordinary artist. If you buy no other nude male photographic works, you should at least own the genius who produces the VERY BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you can find his works available, buy them--if they are out of print or so expensive in price, keep looking. You may luck up as I did!!!!!! ENJOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Of the three previous photo books by Paul Freeman.The fourth Bondi Road is the best. It has an even more casual feeling to it than Bondi Urban.The other two books Bondi Classic and Bondi Work were more staged andposed than they should have been. As with the other books the men in them are as all ways spectacular!

I have the entire collection and this one is one of the best that I have ever bought. Sensible nude photography ,not porn. Only art. It's worth buying.

Bondi Road marks a fitting conclusion to a superb series of Bondi themed books by Paul Freeman. Whilst there are slightly fewer models in this than in the rest of the Bondi books, this allows for a more detailed presentation of each model, all of whom are captured in full frontal magnificence. Bondi Road seems to have the greatest greater proportion of colour photographs than any other in the Bondi series - including the sole colour cover - and in my view the use of colour only serves to enhance the natural beauty of the models. There is almost a wistful tone to Bondi Road; the models' poses are sexy and confident, but there appears at times a realisation in their facial expressions that they are at the end of something special. I think that one needs to have all the books in the Bondi series if the complete Bondi journey captured by Mr Freeman is to be fully understood and appreciated, and can think of no better collection of photographic books to own.

Sadly, the book may remain all too relevant today. The Question, released for the first time in the U.S. in nearly 50 years, details the arrest and torture by the French military of Henri Alleg, a French journalist living in Algiers. Alleg, a Communist who supported Algerian independence, shocked the French nation. The slim volume was written in 1957 in an Algiers prison four months after the torture ended, smuggled out of prison and published in France the next year. It was the first book to be banned in France for political reasons in two centuries. It retains its power today. This new release contains the original text and the original preface by Jean-Paul Sartre. It adds not only a foreword and introduction by Americans who have written on U.S. policies and Guantanamo Bay, but also a new afterword by Alleg. The methods used on Alleg were brutal. In his first session alone, Alleg is electrically shocked on various parts of his body, including his genitals; waterboarded; beaten; and various parts of his body, including his groin, are burned. When he is finally taken to a cell, he is thrown into it with his hands handcuffed behind his back.      On my knees, I moved towards a mattress against the wall. I tried to lie on it on my stomach but     it was stuffed inside with barbed wire. I heard a laugh behind the door: "I put some     barbed wire inside the mattress." With passages like these, Alleg portrays how, whether by mindset or acclimation, those conducting the torture seemed to become immune to it. Thus, when Alleg later is tortured some three floors underground, one of his main persecutors wants him gagged. But it's not because Alleg's screams might be heard. Rather, Alleg is gagged because his torturer finds the screaming of his victims "disagreeable." Similarly, when Alleg is later taken to the infirmary, the doctor does not tend to his wounds but, rather, supervises the administration of "truth serum." Yet Alleg also shows how effects spread further than the victim or interrogator. He writes of a young paratrooper who came into his cell and praised those in the French Resistance who died from torture rather than reveal information.      I looked at this youth with his sympathetic face, who could talk of sessions of torture I had     undergone as if they were a football match that he remembers and could congratulate me without     spite as he would a champion athlete. A few days later I saw him, shriveled up and disfigured by     hatred, hitting a Moslem who didn't go fast enough down the staircase. This [clearing center] was not     only a place of torture for Algerians, but a school of perversion for young Frenchmen. Sartre also takes note of this. It is this aspect of such practices that really becomes the ultimate question and makes The Question more than a story about the French military in Algeria. Alleg's new afterword says French specialists in "muscular interrogation" provided training to governments around the world, including Latin America, South Africa and the United States. Likewise, a new introduction by James Le Sueuer, a history professor who has written on the French-Algerian conflict, states that French officers who oversaw the use of torture and summary executions in Algeria trained U.S. military personnel on counterinsurgency theory and France "actively sent its professional torturers as official military advisors to the American military." The reports of the use of sleep deprivation and waterboarding in interrogations in Iraq and Guantanamo Bay and the Abu Ghraib photos seem familiar enough to some of the techniques Alleg describes that they may speak to an Algerian legacy. Yet it is doubtful The Question will stir in the U.S. what it did in France. Unquestionably, some of the book's impact came from Alleg being a French citizen being tortured by the French military. Similarly, Alleg was a journalist, not a combatant or terrorist who posed a direct threat to the French military or the public. As such, his situation is far different from that of someone who may possess knowledge of upcoming attacks, which seems to have been the focus of the U.S. debate on interrogation practices. Moreover, since Alleg's book is far from the first to detail barbaric treatment of prisoners and certainly not the last, it provides a sad commentary on mankind and human nature. The importance of this book cannot be understated. From a counterinsurgency perspective, it addresses the very large part of the war effort, which is the extraction of information from suspected and confirmed insurgents through interrogation. All counterinsurgency efforts are confronted with such an endeavor. Often, the government fighting the guerrillas resorts to the use of physical torture to acquire critical information about their enemy. This work is a graphic description of why such widespread employment of torture in fact has the opposite effect. Physical torture undermines the legitimacy of those employing it and is the fodder for further resistance and recruitment of new fighters. Although this work addresses the French effort to maintain their colonial conquest of Algeria in the 1950's and 60's, the lessons here echo across history and to modern times. Bottom line, those who employ physical torture of their captives are most likely doomed to fail in their counterinsurgency efforts and will be treated accordingly when they are captured, thus intensifying the wheel of violence and inhumanity. Overall, this is a superb book and required for anyone interested in the topic of counterinsurgency and counterterror, either in reference to Algeria or the post- 9/11 conflicts.

Henri Alleg (who has also collaborated in a 3 vol history of the Algerian War) is a hero. Unlike most French and Algerian Communists he supported the FLN without reservations and was willing to suffer the consequences usually reserved for the Arab militants--consequences which had their origins in Nazi concentration camps but were refined by the likes of Salan, Challe, Massu and others. The Gen-gene and other methods of peruasion (which I suspect are still used by our current rulers and I mean Obama not simply Bush) makes waterboarding look like watersurfing.Read Alleg's book! Watch his interview in the splendid new Criterion 3 DVD set of "The Battle of Algiers" Listen to his interviews which are online.Would that Alleg's complete history of the war were translated into English. Alastair Horne --an honorable man of the moderate right (I think he would agree with that description) has written a detailed history of the war--by far the best book about the war in English.A final and personal note: My father--a man of no politics was stationed in Algeria uring WWII. He was there before the massacre at Setif and watched some of it in horror. The French racist brutality toward the Algerian people so branded him that he never set foot in France and discouraged others from going. Alleg's description of his own experiences really is a shorthand for the ratissages and rattonades that our current regime now indulges in. Horne's book begins with a preface denouncing torture--I wish that his book had gone into more of its horror; nevertheless I salute him. Read Horne and read Henri Alleg I beg you.

A brilliant explanation of why torture is so wrong in so many ways. Should be a must read for anyone interested in this area from a political or moral/ethical viewpoint... also a good discussion of what torture does to the torturer as well as the victim.

This book will shock you - I guarantee you. Based on the author's real-life torture at the hands of the French "paras," this book ultimately began the protests against French colonial rule in Algeria during the Algerian War of Independence by revealing the true terror of torture used by the French Army to succeed in the war. However, I truly believe that this book is certainly not dated - we (as in the US) still use torture to this day. From Abu Gharib to Guantanamo Bay, torture is still relevant in foreign policy and counterinsurgency tactics as it was in the Algerian War of Independence - more than about fifty years ago. Hence, I consider this an essential read to anyone who is interested in the details of counterinsurgency techniques used not just in the French Army, but in the U.S. Army and armies all over the world.

Has some pretty good basic information but is obviously a little dated as it referenced ORCA and CCR which were replaced by SAM in 2011. Seems like it would be helpful for anyone interested in IDIQ contracts. It's a pretty easy read and not very long or expensive.

Conn Iggulden is a fantastic writer of what is known as fictional history. It is history told as a story, which is far different than the names, dates and places that we learned in school. This story is from the narrative of one of the major characters in the story. That person is Xenophon, who is an Athenian Greek, whose works include the teachings of Socrates. He is a minor character in Part 1 of the book and the major character in Part 2. Conn has taken his writings and created a thrilling novel that will keep you in suspense until its very end.

Bought this as an Amazon recommendation. I'm a big Bernard Cornwell fan and have read all his Sharp and Saxon Tales books. In comparison I found this a bit slow moving. Yes, it's based on a historical event, but I didn't find the characters as compelling as those created by Cornwell. Sorry

I love historical novels from period of Ancient Greece. It has lots of action but most of the book is about the Spartan general Clearchus and the Persian Prince Cyrus with just a little on Xenophon, I still enjoyed it. The author tells the story different from the Anabasis.

So many hero’s in this book that is based on historical events, Conn brings it all alive to the reader. At first you think the book is going to be all about The Persian Prince Cyrus as he struggles against his brother but that is only part of the story.I spent my day to read and finish the whole book and it was worth while.

If you have read Conn Iggulden’s books then I suggest that you pick up this book it won’t disappoint. As I have read Xenophon’s original work(translated) previously. I liked the way the author set the stage prior to the Battle of Cunaxa. The author does a great job with historical fiction.

The book has two distinct stories. Cyrus' tragedy is heart-rending and the resulting plight of the Greeks falls on Xenophon's shoulders. Cometh the hour, cometh the man. I did find myself wishing Haephestus' story had been more fully developed.

This author is amazing! Can’t put the books down that he writes. Well developed characters and intense fight scenes.

I love Conns books but this one was terrible goin by his previous standards. Was a very hard read. will chalk it up.as an off day
